Dos Pueblos Scholar Athlete of the Year
For his outstanding accomplishments in the classroom and in the pool, Dos Pueblos Water Polo’s Jayden Moore was awarded the Dos Pueblos Scholar-Athlete of the Year award at Monday’s press luncheon. This award is sponsored by Mark Gambardella.
Moore maintains a 4.97 GPA, the highest among male athletes at Dos Pueblos. He won his MVP award for the water polo team as a junior and was named to his All-CIF Division 2 first team.
“I would like to thank all of my coaches, teachers, and teammates who supported me both athletically and academically. They really pushed me to do my best,” Jones said. . “I would also like to thank my parents for supporting me in all of my hobbies and endeavors. It really shaped my dream of becoming an engineer.”
Dos Pueblos water polo coach Chris Parrish praised Moore for prioritizing academics despite his rare athletic ability and the example it sets for the program’s younger players.
“Jaden is obviously a great athlete and definitely has the potential to go to a Division 1 program. I was really hoping he was leaning towards going to an Ivy League school, but he “What’s even more incredible about him is that he’s an old soul. He’s taking a little bit of a break from athletics so he can focus on his future,” Parrish said. “Rather than pursue sports, he may be concentrating on engineering and robotics and applying to Cornell’s School of Engineering. This is a really good lesson for the rest of the team.”
san marcos women’s tennis
The San Marcos girls tennis team has a balanced lineup and is undefeated so far this season with a 10-0 record. Head coach Sarah Ashton brought two of her players, Campbell Thayer and Riley O’Brien, to the press luncheon.
“Campbell has improved a lot from last season to this season,” San Marcos coach Sarah Ashton said. “She’s dropped quite a few strokes from her average, and that’s having an impact in important matches.”
O’Brien is San Marcos’ top golfer and leads by example as a senior. She has earned medalist honors multiple times this season.
“Riley is the heart of our team. She’s almost always our lowest scorer, whether it’s an overall match medalist or an overall team medalist,” Ashton said. “I’m really looking forward to Riley’s competitive spirit and willingness to compete.”
The Royals will play undefeated Buena next Tuesday for the league title.
