LANSING – The Allen Park High School Library Media Center, part of Allen Park Public Schools, has been awarded the state’s 21st Century Model School Library (SL 21) award for the 2023-2024 school year, Michigan Libraries announced today.

The Allen Park High School Library Media Center, led by Library Media Specialist Melissa Lambert, is an engaging and active experience for Allen Park High School students and students through Lambert’s collaboration with faculty and staff, and partnerships with local public libraries. This is a place that has created a great learning environment. Teachers.

The Allen Park High School Library Media Center was selected for Model SL 21 honors because of its focus on engaging students and teachers on-site and providing resources and activities. This includes his more than 200 collaborative, interactive lessons with fellow teachers and Maker Stations over the past year. Book exhibits, Hour of Code, and his March is Reading Month programming at the library.

“Literacy is critical to academic achievement, and school libraries need to be an integral part of literacy efforts in schools across the state and nation,” he said. State Superintendent Dr. Michael Rice. “It is great to see Mr. Lambert and the media center succeed at Allen Park High School.”

State Librarian Randy Riley He said the quality of outreach and programs available to the Allen Park High School community is a testament to Mr. Lambert and Principal Jason Skiba’s focus on providing a quality educational environment for students.

“Students need to learn through a variety of experiences,” Riley said. “The activities and content provided by the school and school library ensure Allen Park students have the resources they need to achieve.”

The Model SL 21 program recognizes high-quality school libraries and library media professionals and fosters the development of similar initiatives in other schools. This program is based on the Michigan State Library School Library 21st Century Benchmark. The Allen Park High School Library Media Center holds exemplary status in the SL 21 program through March 2026.
