Kaiser Permanente researcher studying modifiable risk factors for obesity and cancer-related metabolic diseases will be one of 10 entry-level to mid-career professionals selected in 2023
The National Academy of Medicine has named Dr. Elizabeth Cespedes Feliciano, a researcher in the Kaiser Permanente Northern California Research Division, as one of its 2023 Emerging Leaders in Health and Medicine.
“This program provides an excellent opportunity to not only learn from active members of the National Academy of Medicine, but also to contribute to that program,” said Cespedes-Feliciano. “One of the aspects that I am most excited about is the opportunity to network and collaborate with emerging leaders in various areas of health and medicine, both from my own group and from past groups of health and medicine emerging leaders. Feliciano’s research focuses on identifying, understanding, and intervening in modifiable risk factors for obesity and cancer-related metabolic diseases. Her research found that a cancer diagnosis accelerates women’s aging. Obese women were less likely to receive the full recommended chemotherapy dose. And her body composition is associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular disease in normal-weight breast cancer survivors.
